What’s up in the Studio…

Standard

I have been very lucky to be very busy working on lots of different projects for my wonderful clients over the last month.  So busy, I’ve fallen behind on sharing some of the great projects that get sent my way!

Today I would like to share with you a bedding set I sewed with love for a gorgeous little girl named Marley.  Her mommy contacted me about making a toddler quilt and pillow around some unique japanese fabric she had ordered.  I jumped at the chance once I saw how adorable the print was; and knowing Marley’s mommy isn’t scared of bright colors I knew it’d turn into something really exciting!

I chose a bright pink cotton and ocean blue cotton to compliment the animal printed fabric. Pink and blue stripes were quilted together to make a coordinating pillow sham.

Each block of color was separated with cotton bias trim in a rich mocha brown. The edges of both the quilt and sham were finished with the same mocha brown cotton, but featured a crisp white edge of rick rack under it as a decorative border, as shown in the photo below.

I used a natural bamboo and cotton blend for the inner batting, which is excellent for both warmer and cooler seasons.  Cotton batting also provides a nice weight to quilts, in my opinion; they lay nicely on the bed, fold neatly, and have a heirloom quality to them.  The back was finished in a complimentary 100% cotton pattern, making this blanket reversible. I kept it all together by machine quilting it in a diamond pattern using white thread (on my trusty Juki industrial machine…the BEST for long straight lines!).

This project was a fun break from the bags and diapers I’ve been working on, thank you for allowing me to share it here with you!  This type of work is available to everyone on a custom basis, as always I can be contacted at Susie@FreeRoseStudio.com with any questions regarding this project or any others. Thank you for following my adventures in sewing and design!
